After breakfast, join our tour guide to explore the cultural and historical UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Kathmandu Valley. We’ll begin at Boudhanath, home to the impressive Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist shrines in the world, where you can witness Buddhist monks in prayer. Next, we’ll visit Pashupatinath, Nepal’s most revered Hindu temple, along the sacred Bagmati River. At this site, you will see Hindu holy men (sadhus) meditating, pilgrims bathing in the river, and occasionally, funeral pyres burning on the ghats, highlighting the blend of spirituality and tradition. Following that, we will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, where we can enjoy various Hindu temples and the Kumari Palace, steeped in the legend of Kathmandu Valley. We will then transfer to the hotel to prepare for the Manaslu trek. This extra day is required to obtain a Mt. Manaslu trek permit with the original passport. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
The drive from Kathmandu via Arughat to Machha Khola (930m) is 160 km and takes approximately 7-8 hours by private vehicle (Jeep/Land Cruiser or Van, depending on group size) or 9-10 hours by public bus, whichever you prefer. The private vehicle will pick you up from the hotel and drive directly to Machha Khola, but to catch the public bus, your guide will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning to take you to the new bus park.
Arughat is the largest market for local trade in the area and is situated on the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River, a tributary of the Gandaki River. It is a glacial river fed by snowmelt from the base of Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain. The Budhi Gandaki River is a popular off-the-beaten-path rafting destination located halfway between Kathmandu and Pokhara in the Gorkha district of Nepal. After visiting Arughat, we will continue our drive to Machha Khola. The name "Machha Khola," which translates to "Fish River," is inspired by the abundance of fish in the local waters. The village is characterized by its traditional houses, friendly locals, and a few teahouses catering to the needs of trekkers, providing meals, lodging, and a glimpse into the rural lifestyle of Nepal. There are also natural hot springs near the village where you can take a warm bath and relax your body. Overnight in a teahouse in Machha Khola.
We start by crossing the Machha Khola River via a suspension bridge and head upstream along its bank. After arriving at Khorla Besi, where a hot spring (Tatopani) is located, the trail continues toward the village of Dobhan. From Dobhan, we ascend further and cross a wooden bridge over the Budi Gandaki River, thus avoiding a lengthy 3-hour climb. Continuing our trek, we will arrive at a flat valley of Yaru. The Cantilever Bridge (Yarubagar), supported only on one side, links Yaru and Jagat. After crossing the bridge, we reach Jagat, where we will verify our trekking permits at the tourist checkpoint. Jagat is also the gateway to the restricted Manaslu Region. Located in the Gorkha District of Nepal, Jagat Village is part of the Gandaki Pradesh province, nestled within the western part of the Manaslu Conservation Area and surrounded by stunning mountains and scenic landscapes. Overnight in a teahouse in Jagat.
Trek to Dang by ascending a rocky ridge that passes through several small local settlements: Salleri, Sirdibas, Philim- a large Gurung village- and Nyak Phedi. Along the trail, you will encounter several suspension bridges over the Budhi Gandaki River and dense pine and rhododendron forests. This region has numerous Buddhist stupas, monasteries, chortens, and prayer flags. After crossing a bamboo forest and the Dang Khola River, you will reach Deng village, another incredible settlement offering magical views of snow-capped mountains. Overnight in a teahouse in Deng.
The trail leads across the Budhi Gandaki River, ascending through dense fir and rhododendron forests in the Budhi Gandaki Valley. The winding route, personified by its ups and downs, takes us past several small villages. After a while, we will traverse a log bridge to reach an isolated watermill. From there, the path descends to Bihi Phedi and crosses the Serang Khola via a small bridge. We will go through the corn and wheat fields, where small waterfalls can be seen throughout the region. After crossing another suspension bridge, we'll reach Ghap. Beyond Ghap, the trail meanders through lush green forests with rhododendrons and pine trees. The route then descends alongside the river, allowing us to trek along the northern bank. After crossing the river and continuing along the banks, you will arrive at the Tibetan village of Namrung. Various landmarks, such as Mani Walls, Chortens, and others, represent the Tibetan culture in the region. Overnight in a teahouse in Namrung.
From Namrung village, there is an excellent view of Siring Himal, Ganesh Himal (7422m), and Mt. Himalchuli (7893m) to the south. As we trek through the village, we observe large barley fields and pastures. We will ascend steeply from Namrung through dense forest to the charming village of Lihi (2920m), known for its chortens and barley terraces.
The Nupri Region features rugged terrain, deep valleys, and impressive snow-capped peaks. The trail takes us through Himan Khola, then to the picturesque settlement of Lho (3180m), marked by the Ribung Gompa monastery perched on a hilltop, before crossing the Damonan Khola River. As we proceed to Shyo village, the path climbs a ridge overlooking the lush pastures and fields of Samagaon. Samagaon village offers spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayas. It is located within the Manaslu Conservation Area, home to diverse flora and fauna, and is one of the most well-preserved regions in the Gorkha District of Nepal. Overnight in a teahouse in Samagaon.
Acclimatization does not constitute a complete rest day; instead, it involves spending two consecutive nights at the same altitude and hiking to a higher altitude during the day. Samagaon is one of the best places for trekkers and climbers to acclimate. This village also offers one of the best views of Mt. Manaslu (8156m). You can explore numerous places during your stay at Samagaon; we can hike to nearby destinations that you choose to get spectacular views. These are our suggestions:
Birendra Lake (3450m) is a freshwater lake at the foot of Manaslu. This stunning lake is only a 45-minute walk from Samagaon. You can also take a side trip on the way to Samdo. However, suppose you need more time to rest. In that case, you can spend the day exploring the surroundings, such as Buddhist monasteries or the village of Samagaon, a large Tibetan community.
Reaching Manaslu Base Camp (4900m) involves a 5–6-hour hike from Samagaon. The journey begins through lush vegetation and leads to Birendra Lake (3450m). As you climb higher, the terrain turns barren, offering breathtaking views of the blue lake and Manaslu. You will encounter steep ascents north of Samagaon above the impressive Manaslu glacier. The last segment of the trek is the steepest, requiring navigation of a narrow moraine. You may see climbers' tents and vibrant prayer flags along the way. The return to Samagaon from the base camp typically takes 2-3 hours.
Pungyen Monastery, or Pung Gyen Gompa (4700m), is situated on the southern slope of Manaslu. It offers stunning views of this majestic peak and serves as a peaceful retreat in the Manaslu region. Additionally, the monastery holds spiritual and historical importance.
Phungen Monastery (4050m) is another fantastic short side trip from Samagaon, taking about 2 to 2.5 hours to reach. Nestled at the edge of a vast grassy plateau, it is surrounded by rocks and towering peaks. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Manaslu's magnificent face. The monastery is humble, featuring small prayer halls and dormitories for monks. With no lodges available nearby, visitors must return on the same day. Stay overnight at the same teahouse in Samagaon.
The trail takes us through juniper and birch forests, passes several Mani walls and a stone hut at Kermo Kharka, and then descends to the Budhi Gandaki River, which you will cross via a wooden bridge. Along the route, you will enjoy stunning views of the mountains, particularly Manaslu, as we arrive at Samdo, a Tibetan refugee village. Overnight in a teahouse in Samdo.
We will hike at high altitudes through desolate landscapes offering breathtaking mountain views. Our path will take us along the borders of fields and historical mani walls before crossing the wooden bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River, leading us into a valley and then past the Athahra Syar Stream and the Larkya Stream. The majestic Larkya Glacier will come into view as we navigate these streams. This trek will lead us to the small market of Larkya La Bazar, situated at 4200 m. The trail ascends and descends through the gorge, arriving at the sole shelter along the route to the pass, Dharamsala (Larkya La Phedi). Dharamsala is a quaint settlement that offers tea houses for trekkers preparing to tackle Larkya La Pass the following day overnight in a shelter or a tent, as the space is very limited in Dharamsala.
Trekking from Dharamsala (4460m) via Larkya La Pass (5106m) to Bimthang (3590m) constitutes one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of the trek, covering 25km and taking approximately 7-8 hours. The ascent to Larkya Pass offers unparalleled mountain views, followed by a long descent to Bimthang through glacial landscapes. Crossing the Larkya La Pass can be difficult in severe weather and snow; however, our skilled guide will make the best choices if conditions worsen.
The trail reaches the top of the moraine at 4700m and climbs steeply to Larkya La at 5135m, with strikingly fabulous views of Manaslu (8156m), Himlung (7126 m), Annapurna II (7937m), Ratna Chuli (6889m), Cheo Himal (6820m), Nemjung (7140m), Gyaji Kang (7074m), Kang Guru (6981m) and Tibet Kang (7126m). The journey from Larkya La Pass to Bimthang, known as the ‘Plain of Sand’ in Tibetan, takes three hours. As you descend, take in the stunning views of immense icefalls and glaciers, surrounded by majestic mountains on all sides. Overnight in a teahouse in Bimthang.
The trails lead downhill, guiding us through a vibrant forest filled with rhododendrons, oak, and pine trees alongside beautiful pasture lands as we descend into the Dudh Khola Valley. Along the way, we pass through Chauli Kharka and Surki Khola villages before finally arriving at Goa. Overnight in a teahouse in Goa.
The trail continues through the fields, oak, and pine forest, crosses a suspension bridge at Tilche over Dudh Khola, and then descends to Dharapani. Drive (51km) by local-sharing jeep to Besisahar takes about 3 hours. As the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit trek, Besisahar is a trekking hub. The Annapurna Circuit is one of Nepal's most popular and iconic treks, attracting adventurers worldwide. Overnight at a hotel in Besisahar.

Cost of packages for Manaslu Region.
The cost of trekking packages in the Manaslu Region varies based on several factors, including trek duration, the number of trekkers, whether the trip is private or on a group basis, the season, and porter service requirements, but guides are an integral part of this trek. The modes of transportation and types of accommodation also vary. The Manaslu Region has several accommodations: Tea Houses, Guest Houses, Shelters, and Hotels. All the rooms have twin-sharing arrangements during the journey, so you must share them with other trekkers. You may, however, reserve a separate room, but it will be more expensive. Prices for these treks generally range from 1150 USD to 1800 USD per person (based on a single person). Also, the larger your group, the lower the per-person cost, as some costs could be shared, like transportation by private vehicle or accommodation.
TMT specializes in all-inclusive trekking packages from Kathmandu, some with heritage sightseeing tours. Depending on accommodation, these packages can be budget-friendly adventures or luxurious getaways. We can also provide individually tailored packages to match your interests and preferences. Don't hesitate to contact the TMT team for apersonalized quotebased on your itinerary and preferred options.
The cost of these all-inclusive packages typically includes transportation from and to the international airport from your hotel, accommodation at the hotels in Kathmandu and in local lodges or guesthouses, meals (except lunch and dinner in Kathmandu), and the services of a licensed trekking guide and porter. We also include the cost of permits, the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), the Restricted Area Permit (RAP), the Trekking Permit (TIMS), and all the applicable local taxes. Please refer to the Included/Excluded Services and Itemssection for details.
Using an agency like TMT offers numerous benefits that make your trip much more comfortable. When you book a trek with us, you won't have to worry about where to go, how to get there, or finding a place to stay overnight, especially during peak seasons. Traveling with a licensed local guide is also significantly safer. Do you have experience with high-altitude trekking? Are you familiar with how to recognize the signs of high-altitude sickness and how to manage it? By choosing TMT, the trek becomes a shared responsibility between you and the agency.
Where does the money you pay to the agency go? Almost all of it goes "back to the mountain," so to speak. Only a tiny fraction of that money is spent on office expenses.
